: There was the time that some of Deck Dept. took "Oscar" the man overbard dummie up to the signal bridge. It was one of those nights where the moon is brite and it's almost daylight. The OOD and Conning officer were just looking out the windows when Oscar came from above passing right in front of the bridge windows dressed in dungarees. As he hit the main deck, a seaman ran outta the wind tunnel and grabbed oscar before he could be seen by the OOD. It was a scream lemme tell ya. I was on the bridge team that night. I can't remember the OOD's name but he was freaked out. He called out, "Oh shit, was that someone?" He opened one of the windows and looked down. By then the dummie was gone from the main deck and on his way back to the deck dept. gear locker. The conning officer did not see it and the rest of the bridge team was in on it so we all denied seeing anything. I'm sure he was scarred for life behind that one.
