John Toye here. I am retired from the Navy now and working as a government contractor here in the Norfolk area. I still get to visit ships regularly and the Navy has changed. Our time was old school. What your son is experiencing is the "New Navy". Some things have changed for the good (Drug testing, working conditions etc..) while others have changed for the worse. Hope all is well with you and hope your son does well with his tour.
