I had the pleasure of being assigned this ship the day it arrived in Sydney. I was an SCI (ship configuration inspector) working for MCCAFO-E at the time. In all I spent about 8 months onboard where she travelled quite a few thousand miles mainly in asian, NZ, Australian waters. I was also a regular visitor while it was in the modernisation monitoring and recording all the new fitted equipment. The main changes were the removal of the wind tunnel for a large hangar, large medical facility, galley upgrade, engine modernisation, RO water making facilities, comms upgrade and A/C upgrade. Basically it is all new from 1dk upwards including CPO/PO/wardroom (rank has its priveledge) 2 large classrooms and a Tri service command center. Wardroom Cabins, bridge are the same except for command propulsion console and minor additions and eletions. All the old boats have gone, new crane fitted, aerial masts, HIAB and Rib, aussie liferafts plus captains boat only. Thats all I can remember. I do remember finding a fan space (not on ship's drawings and boarded up) within a fan space near the CPO's lobby where I nearly fell into a hole in the deck from rust.
